Mitsugi is a Japanese word which roughly translates to 'three-legged'. This name is often used to describe a tripod or a three-legged object, which makes it a fitting name for this three legged bamboo chair. It's also a simple and easy-to-pronounce name that has a nice ring to it.
This chair was conceptualized to have a triangular base with three legs, and in due process we could understand the material better. This was the reason why we decided to create a simple framework as the spine (which behaves like the third leg). The chair was designed to be 'thoughtlessly playful' which was understood with how people interacted with the chair.
This chair was build entirely out of bamboo, without the use of any nails or hooks. Through the course of building this chair, we also developed a good understanding of bamboo as a material; its strength, its pain-points, and a number of its other properties.
